We find paradise - Croatia part 5
I confess. I was not happy.
A major strop was brewing.
So I went for a little wander, partly to calm down and partly to check out a scrap of beach that I had seen just beyond one of the bars. And I found a cute little deserted sandy beach just accessible from the road, and just perfect for a 3 hour rest stop! Phew!
It's amazing how quickly 3 hours can fly when you are floating in the sea, sunbathing, and drying off your washing on a Robinson Crusoe style line. In no time we were packing up to try and get something to eat before catching the bus.
We stopped at the restaurant directly opposite the bus stop, so that we could fling ourselves in front of the bus if necessary. "Can we have some food?" "No, you don't have time." "Can't we have anything?" "Maybe some ham and cheese." How about some anchovies?" "No you don't have time."
Well it turned out we just had time to check out the guy's apartment upstairs - he rents it out for about €50 a night, it's a fairly basic apartment, with room for 3 in the main bedroom and a spacious sofa/bed in the living room, but with a bigger better bathroom than the one we had the night before.... but... and this is a big one... it has a huge terrace with a view of the water. If you stayed here you would just stay on the balcony and drink in the blue.
Although do remember it is over a restaurant! Goran, who owns it was very sweet, offered to make an honest woman of me (at last) and also invited us back to the restaurant claiming it was only an hour from Zadar (please!) He also told Ellie that if we came back we could stay for free! If only we had been there the previous night! So if you are stuck in Biograd maybe you should pop over to T’kon to find somewhere to stay and a nice restaurant!
Our lunch wasn't cheap, but it may have been that the ham and cheese were really of superior quality - they tasted fantastic, but we had just been lying on a beach for 3 hours eating cherries and yesterday's crisps - I have been known to eat a two day old Dairylea sandwich at this sort of point and proclaim it heavenly! We also enjoyed some enormous frosty tankards of shandy... yes... we brought the concept of lager shandy to T'kon.
And then.... we were on the bus.... hoorah!
To be honest, although we were really looking forward to seeing some of the island it all became a bit samey after a while... ooh, red roofs, ooh, blue sea, ooh a bridge... yes once again we were hot, tired and in need of a good shower! The rest of our trip went fairly smoothly as we jumped on a ferry at Preko, landed at Zadar, dragged ourselves across the footbridge and called a cab, waited 20 minutes, kicked some interlopers out of our cab, and finally arrived at Hotel Adriana...
Only to be told that we had no booking!
Ulp! Luckily the very nice lady (they are all nice ladies in Croatia) said she would sort us out with a room anyway. Which was really nice considering the state we were in, grumpy, sandy, sweaty, and carrying dishevelled backpacks into a 4 star hotel (at least!) She also let me use the free internet cafe to forward my email from Splendia, so she could see that we had paid a deposit etc.
She handed us our keys and we plodded off to look at our room - already quite snarky and ready to write off the hotel as a rip off.
