The Restaurant - Tunxi Old Street Hotel
The Restaurant - Tunxi Old Street Hotel
Although the hotels, restaurants and even the spas were completely different in each area of China that I visited, I was so lucky that each place was what I really needed at the time.
The standout aspects of this hotel are the comfortable beds, and even more importantly when you are heading up a mountain, the exceptional food.
Particular favourites were the spring rolls and the pearl rice balls (little balls of meat and rice), but these are quite expensive so I would recommend you have them for breakfast - where you can choose a specialty dish in addition to the buffet. Although the morning I climbed the mountain I could only manage half a bowl of noodles for breakfast because I was so nervous, I made up for it the next day!
In total I ate six meals here in 48 hours and enjoyed them all immensely. I also really enjoyed the reaction to my parting gift - a substantial tip - (but if you look at the price of the meal you’ll see I didn’t have to leave much to impress!) The lovely manageress here was so excited that she ran to the fridge and grabbed three big bottles of water to give me. Although there are few things less appropriate to give to someone about to go through airport security it was a wonderful gesture, and I took them gladly - and even managed to pass one of them on to a family I met at the airport - sharing the joy!
44RMB (£4.40) for my dinner - pork soup, vegetables with garlic, special rice and complimentary tea: as at September 2010
