The Shopping - Daffy’s East 57th Street
Although I was all set to give outlet shopping a miss after our experience at Century 21, Irina, the Zumba Instructor from my class at Complete Body and Spa recommended I check out a brand called Deha at Daffy’s. Ahem... a couple of hours later I walked out with pretty much my body weight in dance wear!
While my focus may have been on sightseeing, spa going, visiting Central Park and working up a sweat, with just a few hours to go before our flight I definitely made up for lost time. The most dangerous thing about this store is the bag check - they make you check any large bags you have - the problem with this is that you can check your bags, and... go back for more. Which I did. It wasn’t just that the clothes were marked down so much (I bought silk “sweatshirts” which were originally $196 and down to $23.99!), but they were also the kind of dance wear that I just haven’t been able to find in the UK. Then I realised as I hit the tills that some of my $20 bargains had been marked down again (to $3 or $5!) can you blame me for going back?
So when I finally picked up my wares from the bag check, I realised I may have actually bought more than I could carry!
Add in the three pairs of shoes I’d picked up from Aerosoles (a brand of shoes I went crazy for the last time I was in New York and just couldn’t find back in the UK - E. 57th and Lexington), and I was in need of a new suitcase.
Luckily I managed to find a suitcase in a great store on the corner of E. 55th and Lexington. Although of course straight after I bought this case, which I am still in love with, ($150 but should have been $600 and yes I have checked every similar case I’ve seen since then and am still convinced it was a bargain!) I walked past Bonetto Luggage (664 Lexington) which has some of the brightest cases I’ve ever seen in my life!
The slogan of Daffy’s is “Bargains For Millionaires” and situated as it is near some of the smartest stores in New York... Tiffany & Co. is moments away, you’d see how they’d have to deliver to stay in business in this area.
Anyway - it turns out there are a few Daffy’s in New York - the question is how many of them can I get round the next time I’m in New York?
