Early in the morning and at sunset, The Bund is the place to be.  You may not see much tai chi (or feel right about openly watching people exercising) but before the sun gets too hot this is the place people relax and play, especially flying their kites.

Whether the kites are artistic works or tacked together from bin bags, the mastery here is exceptional and one of the highlights of my time in Shanghai was this guy flying his kite all around me.

This is the heart of Shanghai.  (Even if I sometimes suspected that there wasn’t one!)
