Back pain can definitely be helped by massage, although it can be helpful to get a doctor or physiotherapist’s diagnosis before jumping in, as sometimes deep tissue massage can make it worse, and it does depend on the type and cause.
Top hot and cold treatments for pain relief and reduction of inflammation are Caldarium (Or Calidarium), Cold Showers, Hot Stone Massage, Hydrotherapy, Ice Fountain, In Water Massage, Mineral Spa, Sauna, Snow Room, Steam Room, Venik Massage.
Top treatments for helping to alleviate the cause on a deeper level are Abhyanga or Ayurvedic Massage or Prishtabhyanga, Acupressure, Bowen Technique, Facial Rejuvenation Massage, Kundalini Yoga With Gurmukh, Physiotherapy, Reflexology, Reiki, Superficial Massage, Yoga, Zumba ® Fitness.
Hot and cold treatments:
Spa London, particularly their ice plunge pool
K West Spa and their wonderful snow paradise
Two spas I found particularly effective on my recent back pain were the back, neck and shoulder massage at The Glorious Spa Company in Chichester and the Vespers massage at Bailiffscourt in Sussex (ask for Rebecca).
If you’re worried about aggravating back pain I highly recommend a holistic treatment that will treat the cause and symptom of the problem at the same time.
I recommend reflexology at Green Touch in Wimbledon (review in progress) or anywhere in China.
Also Facial Rejuvenation Massage.
I would also highly recommend a good old soak in healing waters; either Thermae Bath Spa, or Blue Lagoon, Iceland. The hydrotherapy pool at Senspa is also excellent but I would avoid their body massages if you have back pain; New Forest Spa And Hotel Break.
